Llechwedd Slate Caverns

We look forward to welcoming you to Llechwedd - the North Wales centre for heritage and adventure here in the heart of Snowdonia.

We have two spectacular underground tours

Grab your hard hat … for the Deep Mine
Travel 200 metres underground to marvel at the enormous caverns, wonder at the underground lake and enjoy a fascinating light and sound tour about the history of quarrying in North Wales.

Adventure into history … on the Tramway Tour
Ride Dewi our little yellow train and travel back over 100 years in the company of a tour guide who will share with you the life of a Victorian quarryman.

Live the Past …..
There is loads to see and learn about here at Llechwedd with new exhibits coming this summer and a chance to visit the old quarry offices and blacksmiths as well as shopping in the Traditional Victorian Sweetshop.

We have plenty of shopping and eating
Craft in action … See a quarrymen split slate as we make roofing slates in the same way we have for hundreds of years, watch as a slate housename is made or shop for Welsh gifts made with Llechwedd Slate before having lunch in the Caverns Café or a drink or snack in the Miners Arms.

There is more for the kids
How about joining in with slate crafts and painting a slate coaster to take home, letting off steam in the Adventure Playground or visiting that old favourite the Victorian Sweetshop.

Look forward to adventure
The most spectacular downhill mountain bike trails in Britain are now open here on site – suitable only for the most experienced riders.
